The Big 12 Conference has removed an officiating crew from its upcoming assignment after the group made a rules error during Saturday’s Border War game between Kansas and Missouri.

In a statement released Tuesday, the league confirmed the crew allowed a punt to occur on a free kick, a violation of NCAA Football Rule 2, Section 16, Article 6. The mistake drew immediate scrutiny following the game.

“The Big 12 officials in Saturday’s Kansas-Missouri game allowed a punt to occur on a free kick in violation of Rule 2 Section 16 Article 6 of the NCAA Football rules,” the league’s release said. “That Big 12 officiating crew has been removed from its next scheduled assignment on Friday, Sept. 12.”

Scott Draper, the Big 12’s Chief Football & Competition Officer, said the decision reflects the league’s commitment to holding officials accountable. “We believe we have one of the best officiating programs in college football,” Draper said. “When the conference’s high standard for officiating is not met, the Big 12 will take action.”

The conference did not disclose which game the crew was pulled from. Friday’s schedule includes Colorado vs. Houston and Kansas State vs. Arizona.
