The Northern Arizona Lumberjacks head to Tempe on Saturday, Aug. 30, to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils at Mountain America Stadium in a Week 1 clash that highlights the opening slate of the college football season.

Arizona State comes off an impressive 11-3 campaign in 2024, a year that saw the Sun Devils claim a share of the Big 12 crown and punch a ticket to the College Football Playoff.

While they’ll need to adjust after the departure of standout running back Skattebo, quarterback Sam Leavitt’s versatility as both a passer and runner, paired with a veteran receiving corps, promises to keep the offense dynamic.

Northern Arizona, meanwhile, enjoyed a strong 8-5 season capped by a 6-2 record in Big Sky play. The Lumberjacks boast plenty of returning firepower on offense, with quarterback Ty Pennington leading a unit that also welcomes back its top wideout and two leading rushers.

Though the offensive line replaces a couple of starters, the group still projects as reliable. On defense, NAU leans heavily on a stout front seven, especially a deep linebacker unit, while an overhauled secondary enters the season as the biggest question mark.
