The Arizona Wildcats (0-0) are set to welcome the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (1-0) to Arizona Stadium in Tucson on Saturday.
The two sides have met just six times since 1951, with Arizona holding a commanding 5-1 advantage in the all-time head-to-head series. Hawaii's only victory came in the most recent meeting in 2019 where they edged through a 45-38 win in Honolulu.
Arizona enters 2025 following a 4-8 campaign last year in which the offense ranked 114th nationally and 109th in defense. Moreover, nearly 40 players departed in the offseason, leaving behind an uninspiring roster, but quarterback Noah Fifita continues and is expected to shoulder much of the load.
Meanwhile, Hawaii will look to build on its momentum after a 23-20 season-opening win over Stanford in Honolulu -- the biggest victory for the Rainbow Warriors under head coach Timmy Chang. It was also Chang’s first win against a Power Conference opponent, improving his record to 1-6 against Autonomous Four teams.
Quarterback Micah Alejado is once again the focal point for Hawaii. He is riding a remarkable 26-game winning streak as a starter, and it will have been 1,100 days since his last loss (back in 2022) as a starter, when he takes the field at Tucson this weekend.
While Alejado briefly hobbled with a leg injury last week, he stayed in the game, finishing with 210 passing yards, two touchdowns and a clutch 30-yard scramble that helped seal the opener. The teams will only meet next in 2029, when they are scheduled to play at the new Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
