College football still has several open Power 4 jobs that need to be filled. Of the names that could come from the Group of Five, Alex Golesh is at the top of that list.

Golesh and the Bulls have an 8-3 record and is only second to 2025’s surprise story of North Texas in offensive production. As rumors continue to circulate, programs have opted to make decisions or public statements to reassure fans of any long term concerns they might have.

In the case of the Curt Cignetti with the Indiana Hoosiers, Mike Elko with the Texas A&M Aggies and the most recent Eli Drinkwitz with the Missouri Tigers have all received contract extensions. Effectively killing any candidacy, they might have elsewhere. As for South Florida, their CEO of Athletics chose to address the Golesh concern via social media.

Transparency from an athletic department regarding the potential loss of a head coach is not typical, but noteworthy. Not to suggest that the coach wouldn’t typically keep the administration in the dark on conversations he may or may not be having. In a landscape where teams usually keep those details close to the vest, it's an intriguing choice.

However, Rob Higgins’ comments from Wednesday provide more information that would be required and speaks to a healthy dynamic at USF. Only time will tell if that relationship along with their commitment, investment and resources are enough to keep Golesh in Tampa.

According to On3, Golesh is among a few names being discussed for the Arkansas Razorbacks job. On3 insider Pete Nakos has revealed Golesh is a leading candidate for the Razorbacks along with Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield and Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack. Nakos believes the Arkansas coaching search will narrow in the coming days.

Golesh and the Bulls still have a regular season game yet to play against Rice. South Florida will play in a bowl game at the conclusion of the season. With college football moving to a single transfer portal window, it is highly unlikely that Golesh would be available to coach in that bowl game if he were to accept a head coaching job elsewhere.

Golesh and South Florida will hope to close out the year when they welcome Rice to Raymond James Stadium for the regular season finale. That game will kick off at 7:00pm ET and broadcast on ESPN+.
