Second-year head coach Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines open the 2025 season Saturday against New Mexico. True freshman Bryce Underwood will make his first career start, becoming the program's first true freshman quarterback starter since Tate Forcier in 2009.
Michigan will look to have a bounce-back season after finishing with an 8-5 record and missing the College Football Playoff.
While the spotlight is on this season, recruiting never slows down. One of the nation's top 2027 prospects is eyeing Michigan despite already committing to Big Ten rival Penn State.
No. 1 RB in 2027, Kemon Spell, still considering Michigan despite Penn State commitment
Kemon Spell, the class of 2027's No. 1 running back and No. 9 overall according to 247Sports, had committed to Penn State on Aug. 2, but things can still change.
Michigan has been trying to get Spell to change his decision and commit to play for the Wolverines. It looks like the Wolverins are starting to utilize the time between now and when he begins his college football career.
Despite his commitment to Penn State, the top running back is still looking to take visits to multiple other teams that are interested in him, including Michigan, Kellen Voss of Maize N Brew said in an article.
Spell is expected to visit multiple schools that are interested in the 5-foot-9, 205-pound running back. The list of schools he's set to visit includes Michigan, Florida State, Notre Dame, Tennessee, and others.
It seems that Kemon Spell is still deciding before he finishes high school and continues his career elsewhere.
