Bryce Underwood didn't disappoint in his first game as the Michigan Wolverines quarterback, and he has caught the attention of ESPN analyst and former college football standout Aaron Murray, who called him "one of the most gifted freshman QBs" he has ever seen. That's a strong take on a quarterback who just made his college football debut.
Underwood led Michigan to a 34-17 victory over New Mexico on Saturday. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 251 yards and one touchdown.
On Sunday, after reviewing Michigan's offensive film, Murray tweeted,
"Bryce Underwood is one of the most gifted freshman QBs I have ever seen! Quick release, strong arm and throws with veteran like anticipation."
Underwood is the fourth freshman to start at quarterback in Michigan program history.
"Honestly, I'd say it's insane, really," Underwood said of making his first start. ... "That was a surreal feeling, being in the Big House. I've been coming to the games since I was 8, 9 years old, so it's just a surreal feeling to have the Block M on my chest and to score a touchdown."

Something else that Underwood said after the game should be something that everyone should keep an eye on. He was not impressed with how the team performed.
"A C-plus today," Underwood said. "It's a lot of things I got to work on and also the team as well. So if we go back to the drawing board, we'll come back better next week."
Opponents should take notice. If Underwood isn't satisfied with what he and the team showed on Saturday, then what's ahead will be on a whole new level.
