The Minnesota Vikings have locked in their 53-man roster for the upcoming season, and while a handful of surprises came out of cutdown day, one undrafted rookie in particular turned heads.

Not only did he make the roster, but he might be stepping right into a meaningful role.

That would be Indiana wide receiver Myles Price. The rookie didn’t just beat the odds as a UDFA — he’s expected to open the season as the Vikings’ primary kick and punt returner.

That kind of trust from the coaching staff suggests Price has a chance to stick around all year.

Price spent last season at Indiana after four years at Texas Tech, finishing his college career with 38 catches for 466 yards and three touchdowns for the Hoosiers. While he wasn’t heavily used as a returner in college, the Vikings see enough speed and elusiveness to hand him the job right away.

He’s also walking into a situation that gives him an immediate opportunity.

With Jordan Addison suspended and Jalen Nailor sidelined by a wrist injury, Minnesota is short on depth at wide receiver. Price has a chance to prove himself not only as a returner but as another weapon in the passing game.

For Indiana, it’s another NFL win under Curt Cignetti, who just led the Hoosiers to their best season in program history and a College Football Playoff berth. Even though their run ended quickly against Notre Dame, Price's stickiness is another sign the program is headed in the right direction.

For the Vikings, though, the story is about finding value. Price’s versatility gives Kevin O’Connell’s staff a spark in a room that needs playmakers. His rise from undrafted free agent to active roster spot is exactly the kind of development teams hope for at the bottom of the depth chart.

If Price takes advantage of this window, he won’t just be filling in until the roster gets healthy. He could end up being one of the biggest hidden gems of Minnesota’s offseason.
