The Arkansas Razorbacks are in the process of replacing fired Hogs head football coach Sam Pittman after a 2-3 start to the 2025 season. Bobby Petrino was named the interim head coach, but there’s no guarantee Hunter Yurachek and the rest of the athletic department would sign off on a full-time return to that kind of madness.
In the event Arkansas wanted to make a more measured risk, KATV’s Rowdy Baribeau believes Georgia Bulldogs defensive coordinator Glen Schumann is the only potential first-time coach who’s worth considering during this hiring cycle.
Baribeau made a bold prediction: Schumann is a shoo-in superstar coach waiting to happen after stints with UGA and the Alabama Crimson Tide.
“Schumann is undoubtedly one of the youngest and brightest minds in college football. Schumann worked his way up from a student assistant at Alabama to a defensive guru at the University of Georgia. Schumann is an expert linebacker coach and playcaller who has yet to take a head coaching job,” Baribeau wrote.
“If you're Arkansas, you shouldn't gamble on another first-time head coach. But, there is an exception: Glenn Schumann. Schumann has all the makings of a future star head coach, given his Alabama and Georgia coaching pedigree. Arkansas would be a good job to keep Schumann in the SEC and build his name as an SEC head coach.”

Schumann’s defenses have been more questionable in recent years, but the peak of the Georgia football dynasty was a byproduct of his defensive chops. On that alone, he has a head coaching job waiting for him somewhere. Whether the Razorbacks want to hire their first defensive-minded coach since Bret Bielema is the bigger question.
Arkansas is a big spender, so there’s big potential to have a 2024/2025 Tennessee Volunteers-esque run pretty quickly. Being part of a new era alongside John Calipari, on the hardwood side, also helps with exposure.
Schumann wouldn’t be the flashiest hire, but from an X’s and O’s standpoint, he’d be one of the strongest possible for the Razorbacks. This union makes a lot of sense, but we’ll see if UGA will let Schumann go without a bidding war.
If Schumann wants a head coaching job, though, the Bulldogs would not have a chance.
