Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks shuts down LSU rumors image

Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks quickly dismissed any speculation regarding him and ths vacant LSU athletic director position. He also reaffirming his commitment to the Bulldogs on social media Friday.

Brooks, an LSU alum and Louisiana native, might seem to be a good fit to return home. But he made it clear on X that he has no plans to leave Athens.

“Georgia fans — with success often comes speculation, but I want to address it directly,” Brooks wrote. “I have not been contacted by anyone at LSU, and more importantly, I have no interest in any other job. My full focus remains on the University of Georgia, our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and fans.”

Brooks has served as Georgia’s athletic director since January 2021, overseeing one of the most successful stretches history, including back-to-back football national championships under head coach Kirby Smart. His May 2024 contract extension ties him to the university through 2030, with an annual salary starting at $1.37 million and increasing by $100,000 each year.

The LSU job opened Thursday after the school parted ways with athletic director Scott Woodward, who had held the position since 2019. Woodward’s exit followed comments from Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry indicating he would not be involved in hiring the Tigers’ next football coach.

Brooks ended his message with a nod to Georgia’s weekend matchup with Florida. “This is home to me,” he wrote. “The best days for Georgia Athletics are still ahead... Let’s go have some fun in Jacksonville! Go Dawgs.”

No. 5 Georgia faces Florida on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC).
