Michael Vick’s first game as a head coach ended in frustration, a 27–7 home loss to Towson in front of more than 19,000 fans at Dick Price Stadium. Vick didn’t sugarcoat what went wrong. “We could have done a lot of things better. We shot ourselves in the foot in a lot of situations. We gave some big plays early. Found a way to get back into the game but gave up a big third and 20 conversion. I thought that was the turning point.”
The stat that stuck with him most was rushing for only 39 yards. “You cannot rush for 39 yards and think that you are going to win a lot of football games. We can’t win like that. We got to control the line of scrimmage and be able to run the football in order to win games. That has to be the mindset moving forward.”

Vick admitted the moment carried weight for him personally. “Outside of the beginning of the game, having some jitters at the beginning and not knowing what to expect, once we kicked the ball off, everything settled down. I felt like I was able to follow the flow of the game.”
Penalties compounded the frustration. “We shot ourselves in the foot every time we had a good play. It was a penalty that set us back. That is part of the discipline. We just got to get better at it.”
Still, Vick praised his defense and pointed forward. “It is not where we start, it is where we finish. We can’t win like that. I expect us to bounce back and be a lot better next week.”
