Former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Kordell Stewart is reportedly eyeing a head coaching opportunity with his alma mater’s biggest rival.

According to NFL insider Josina Anderson, the 53-year-old Stewart has signed with Lil Wayne’s Young Money APAA Sports agency and is interested in the Colorado State Rams’ vacant head coaching position. Anderson reported that Stewart has “already assembled a veteran staff of prominent NCAA and NFL coaches.”

A recent inductee in the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, Stewart became one of the program’s all-time greats under the late Bill McCartney from 1992-94. He led the Buffaloes to 27 wins and authored one of college football’s most iconic moments with the “Miracle at Michigan” Hail Mary to Michael Westbrook in 1994.

Despite all the success in the mid-90s, Stewart's number has yet to be retired at Colorado. This was one of the examples of a misstep by the program after honoring the careers of current NFL rookies Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders before Stewart and many others.

The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Stewart, known as “Slash” for his dual-threat ability, in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft. He spent 11 seasons in the NFL, throwing for nearly 15,000 yards and earning a Pro Bowl selection in 2001.

Colorado State fired head coach Jay Norvell last month after a 2-5 start to his fourth seasons. The Rams have a 2-7 record and need a turnaround with the next coaching hire.

Stewart recently completed his first year as a volunteer offensive coordinator at South Forsyth High School in Georgia.
