Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders is staying active in Cleveland, despite being benched and kept inactive by the Browns, who have chosen Joe Flacco as QB1 and Dillon Gabriel as QB2.

As Cleveland.com’s Matt Goul noted, Sanders is becoming a regular on the Ohio high school football circuit. The “Grown QB” is taking in games every week, given the added time of not having to be prepared to play.

“Sanders stopped by in Week 1 for Avon’s opener against St. Ignatius with Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II, a regular at the Eagles’ home games, and an entourage. Sanders has taken an interest in high school athletes around Cleveland, introducing himself to a few standout receivers this spring for a throwing session. He is now taking part as a spectator for their games,” Ghoul wrote.

CBS Sports’ John Breech explained the multiple scenarios it’d take for Sanders to see playing time – and how the NFL’s recent rule changes made it harder for Brows head coach Kevin Stefanski to play him.

“If Flacco got injured and Gabriel got thrown out of the game for some reason, Sanders would be eligible to play. Sanders could also play if the two quarterbacks were both being checked out for injury (They wouldn't necessarily have to be knocked out of the game),” Breech wrote.

“If one of the top two quarterbacks has an equipment issue, the emergency QB is NOT allowed to go in the game. So if Flacco and Gabriel both were dealing with a broken helmet, Sanders would NOT be allowed to play. The Browns would have to use another player on the active roster in this situation.”

The Browns lost 17-16 to the Cincinnati Bengals at Huntington Bank Field in their season opener on Sunday. Sanders was a healthy scratch, as he’ll be most of the season.

He isn’t going to play much, if at all, this year, but Shedeur isn’t going to be on the low in Cleveland.

Catch him taking in high school action under Friday night lights.
