The Clemson Tigers didn't put together the kind of season they wanted.

Now, one of their most-established players is hitting the transfer portal.

That's safety Khalil Barnes, who is planning to transfer, according to On3's Hayes Fawcett.

Barnes has started all three seasons he has been at Clemson.

That tenure includes a nod as a freshman All-American.

In three seasons, Barnes has 139 tackles, seven interceptions and 6.5 tackles for loss.

Barnes is originally from North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia. He was a three-star recruit.

When he was being recruited, Barnes also took official visits to Wake Forest, Notre Dame and Purdue.

His offer list also included the likes of Duke, Georgia Tech and Oklahoma, along with a host of Group of 5 schools.

After playing so well for Clemson, it seems like Barnes will be a priority addition this offseason for someone in need of secondary help.

It's a tough loss for Clemson, which always expects to lose some players to the NFL Draft but tries to keep its other established starters around.

But Barnes is looking for a new beginning, and Dabo Swinney will have to figure out how to fill his role.
