There might be some renewed clarity on Nick Saban's desire to return to the sidelines.

The 73-year-old is gearing up for another season as a panelist on ESPN's "College Game Day," now two years removed from ending his illustrious run as the head coach at Alabama.

Despite crushing his media availabilities, there's been a lingering notion that Saban could aspire to have one more run as the leader of a football team.

During an appearance on FOX News, Saban made a tongue-in-cheek remark regarding the swirling speculation, but recently on the "Pat McAfee Show," he finally set the record straight.

"The return rumors came out of nowhere," Saban said. "Miss Terry wouldn't let me do it, number one. I've never thought about doing it, number two. I don't know how anyone could come up with that out of thin air."

One of the primary sources peddling the false narrative was Colin Cowherd, who, in a matter of days in late July, linked Saban to the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns.

Cowherd was clearly just pushing his own conspiracy theory, but the conviction in his analysis made the portrayal of Saban itching to put back on the headset take off.

At his age, Saban has nothing to prove, even if he was able to vanquish his failures during his brief stint as a head coach in the NFL nearly two decades ago.

Saban seems content being an ambassador for college football and enjoying his free time with his family. It's time to put the comeback rumors to rest.
