As Alabama approaches its upcoming contest against Florida State Saturday afternoon, the attention slowly moves to Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson.
Many fans and commentators wonder what Simpson will look like. Alabama fans have only seen snippets of Simpson’s play as a backup over the past few years, so it will be interesting to see how he looks playing a full game.
From reports around practice, Simpson seems to have impressed not only his coaches but reporters and college football analysts alike, but who does Simpson model himself after?
Simpson models his play after another famous No. 15, Tim Tebow.
Simpson says, as a kid, Tebow was his hero.
“I loved the way that he played, how passionate he was, and how outspoken he was about his faith,” Simpson said on Hey Coach!, which is Alabama’s weekly coaches show. “I thought that was really cool.”
If you look at his style of play and how he carries himself, it’s very similar. Like Tebow, he wears the No. 15.
Like Tebow, he talks openly about his Christian faith, and like Tebow, he was highly recruited coming out of high school, who can run and pass the football. Oh, and both were recruited by Alabama.
His coaches have mentioned how his running ability may surprise some folks, and that may be his secret weapon. They’ve also said how he can pass on the run, another trait that Tebow had, which made him dangerous.
Now, no one is saying Simpson will go on and win the Heisman and a national championship like Tebow did while he was at Florida; however, you can’t help but see how eerily similar the two are and wonder what the future could look like for the Alabama quarterback.
