This didn’t look great for Ryan Williams.
With Alabama already having a nightmare opener, facing the prospect of a probable loss midway through the fourth quarter at Florida State, the superstar sophomore receiver found himself in traffic.
The throw from Ty Simpson led Williams toward two defenders, and Williams couldn’t quite reel in the pass.
As he went toward the ground, Williams took a hard hit on his head from an FSU player’s shoulder and helmet area.
Williams stayed down for multiple minutes while trainers tended to him.
The referee initially threw a flag for targeting, but after a review, it was ruled not to be targeting.
Williams eventually walked off the field slowly with the trainers.
Alabama eventually turned the ball over on downs on that drive, down two touchdowns, adding insult to injury.
After the game, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer told reporters that Williams had sustained a concussion.
At this point, Crimson Tide fans will just be hoping Williams is OK in the long run.
Nothing else about the night had gone well. Alabama’s season from this point on may depend on how Williams is doing with his health going forward.
