The Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers both fell well short of expectations during the 2024-25 season.

For the Cs, a championship repeat became impossible when Jayson Tatum ruptured his Achilles tendon in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks. For the Sixers, the thought of a championship was never on the table amidst a nightmare campaign.

One of Philadelphia’s major offseason mistakes in 2024, Paul George, is sure to be shopped around this offseason, along with Joel Embiid. Up in Boston, Brad Stevens may see now as the time to get aggressive and ship out several veterans, including Jaylen Brown’s massive salary, this summer.

Hardwood Houdini’s Josh Cornelissen came up with a three-time trade proposal that’d nab the Celtics: George, the rights to select Duke Blue Devils basketball phenom Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA draft, Daniel Gafford, Naji Marshall, and Max Christie.

The Sixers would acquire Brown and Olivier Maxence-Prosper.

The Dallas Mavericks would land Jrue Holiday, the No. 3 overall pick, which would likely be Rutgers’ Ace Bailey or Baylor’s V. J. Edgecombe, and 2 future first-round picks via Boston and Philadelphia.

Dallas is almost certainly keeping Flagg. The “almost” comes from GM Nico Harrison’s volatility after trading Luka Doncic for a meager return this past February.

The Celtics and Sixers may have other plans with Brown and George, respectively, this offseason.
