The Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team is fresh off a Final Four. However, head coach Jon Scheyer has a lot of holes to fill with Cooper Flagg, Khama Maluach, Kon Knueppel and Tyrese Proctor all going to the NBA.
Replacing top-tier talent is a tough task, but Duke loses top players every single year, and this time is no different.
On Thursday, Duke got some massive news on the recruiting front as top international prospect Dame Darr committed to Duke, per Jonathan Givony of ESPN.
"Duke was my dream school," Sarr said via Givony. "I watched a lot of NCAA games this season, especially Duke. I played with Jabari Parker this season, who went to Duke. When I had the chance to go there, I had to take it."
Duke has a strong group of players for the 2025-26 season even with Flagg and others leaving. This group includes the Boozer brothers, Nikolas Khamenia, Isaiah Evans, Caleb Foster, Patrick Ngongba, Malique Lewis and Darren Harris.
And while the losses of Knueppel and Proctor are also tough, Sarr said he plays a similar style to them.
"Duke is losing Kon Knueppel and Tyrese Proctor -- who have a similar playing style as me," Sarr said. "My winning mentality and ability to play alongside other good players, while creating shots for myself and others, will help me, along with my offense and defensive versatility. It's a talented roster. We need the pieces to fit in well."
Washington State transfer Cedric Coward was expected to play big minutes, but all signs point to him staying in the NBA Draft after a strong combine run.
Sarr is from Italy and had interest from Kansas, Illinois and others, although the decision appeared to be down to Duke and Kansas.
Now he is a Blue Devil, and he is widely expected to be a first-round pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
