The San Antonio Spurs finished with a 34-48 record during the 2024-25 NBA season. They were 13th in the Western Conference, and the Spurs are looking for light at the end of the tunnel.
The last time this franchise made it to the playoffs was during the 2018-19 season as the seventh seed with a 48-34 record. The Spurs lost to the Denver Nuggets in seven games in the first round of the playoffs that season. Is there a chance that San Antonio can return back to the playoffs during the 2025-26 season?
One NBA Analyst believes that the San Antonio Spurs Can Return Back to the Playoffs This Season
There is always a team or two in the NBA every year that becomes a surprise and makes it to the playoffs. The surprise during the 2024-25 season was the Houston Rockets. Could the Spurs be the surprise in 2025-26 that makes it to the playoffs?
Well, Shaun Powell of NBA.com wrote about where every single NBA team stands before the start of this season. He said about the Spurs potentially making the playoffs this season,
"The surge of the Spurs could arrive sooner than expected, now that San Antonio has a full season with Fox and, just as well, Victor Wembanyama. It’s a bonus that the Spurs lucked into the No. 2 pick and came away with Dylan Harper, but given a loaded backcourt, his minutes and production probably won’t make a huge difference right away. Instead, the Spurs hope for reasonable growth among their young core and help from additions Kelly Olynyk and Luke Kornet. If that happens, the playoffs will beckon."
Victor Wembanyama enters his third season, and he has a chance to be an all-star once again as long as he can stay healthy. De'Aaron Fox will be the second-best player on the Spurs. Rookie Dylan Harper and also Stephon Castle are going to be key role players for this team. There is a good chance that if this team gels early, it could be one of the top eight teams in the Western Conference in 2025-26.
They are not ready to return to the championship glory days just yet. What the Spurs are ready to do is knock on the door to be a playoff team in the west and slow build a championship culture back.
