Players to win Dunk Contest and 3-Point Contest: Donovan Mitchell could make history with victory in 2024 All-Star image

NBA All-Star Weekend features several highly anticipated skills showdowns, but none have been longer-lasting staples than the Slam Dunk Contest and the 3-Point Contest.

The winners of both contests have ranked among the most skilled players in the league's history. Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant have each held Dunk Contest trophies. Larry Bird and Stephen Curry have each claimed multiple 3-Point Contest titles.

There are plenty of stars more than capable of throwing it down hard or draining a shot from long range. But in the history of the two events, there aren't many that have ever attempted to appear in both.

Donovan Mitchell will be the latest to participate in both events and could be close to making history should he win the 3-Point Contest.

Here's what you need to know.

Players to win Dunk Contest and 3-Point Contest

This is a short list. It's not even actually a list. To date, no one has won both the Dunk Contest and the 3-Point Contest.

But there is a chance for a player to join this list. Mitchell won the Slam Dunk Contest in 2018 in Los Angeles when he was a member of the Jazz. He was named one of the 3-Point Contest contestants in this year's edition, meaning he'll have a chance to be the first player in NBA history to win both contests.

As it is, Mitchell participating in both is a rare moment. In 2021, he became the 13th player ever to participate in both the Dunk Contest and the 3-Point Contest when he made his 3-Point Contest debut. This year, Jaylen Brown will become the 14th to do so.

Few can rival the feat of Damian Lillard, who in 2014 participated in both the Dunk Contest and 3-Point Contest in the same year. Kenny Smith is the only other player to have accomplished that feat.

History of Slam Dunk Contest winners

No one has won the Dunk Contest more than former Knicks guard Nate Robinson. The 5-9 guard won the event for the first time as a rookie in 2006, then went on to win back-to-back editions in 2009 and 2010.

History of 3-Point Contest winners

Larry Bird got off to an unreal start in the 3-Point Contest. He won each of the first three editions of the contest, and still holds a share of the record for the most 3-Point Contest wins with Craig Hodges, who won three straight from 1990-92.
