Malik Beasley, formerly of the Detroit Pistons, got great news over the weekend when it was reported that he wasn't under federal investigation any longer.

While this is a step in the right direction for Beasley, and hopefully, his free agency will proceed as smoothly as possible at this stage, after many teams have already finalized their rosters, reports have indicated that the New York Knicks may now show interest in him.

The Knicks have an open roster spot, and there's a strong argument to be made that Beasley is the best player available. Last season, he finished with the second-most 3-pointers in the NBA.

However, according to Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports, there's more that Beasley has to worry about. He might be in trouble with the NBA. The NBA will conduct its own investigation, which could lead to disciplinary action.

Malik Beasley NBA Investigation

"Even if he did sign somewhere, Beasley could still be the subject of NBA discipline," Schiffer reported. "The Eastern District’s investigation is still ongoing and the NBA is investigating Beasley for possible violations of its own rules, which aren’t contingent on the federal investigation."

Given the Knicks' interest, it might be a better decision for them to wait and see if Beasley will be suspended by the NBA, even if it's for just a few games.

However, if this were a long-term suspension, it's really something the Knicks would have to figure out.

Nonetheless, the risk might be worth the reward at this stage. Beasley would fit in well as a playoff shooter in New York.
