There is no denying that the New York Knicks have one of the best starting lineups in all of basketball.
Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, and their team make for an elite roster, but with that talent comes a significant amount of expenses.
Recently, Eric Pincus of Bleach Report listed the Knicks as one of eight teams in the worst salary-cap situations, despite just making a run in the playoffs.
“The team is heavily invested in its core of Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and (Mikal) Bridges. Adding anyone else of note will be a financial and logistical challenge,” Pincus said Sunday. “That the team got returned to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000; the heavy investment may be a positive, provided New York can take that next step to the NBA Finals. While the Knicks had banked multiple first-round picks, most were cashed out to assemble the current squad.”
Pincus does state that the investment in the team could be worthwhile if the roster can take the next step in the following seasons, provided they build chemistry.
It may be hurtful to see the Knicks on this list, considering it wasn’t too long ago that star point guard Jalen Brunson took an estimated $113 million pay cut to give the team some financial wiggle room.

Although they were able to sign free agents like Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, they are still paying five players over $20 million a year.
If the current squad doesn’t work out, this prediction could come true and prove that the Knicks' expensive roster was just one big overpay.
