Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson discusses long-term future with the franchise image

Mitchell Robinson remains one of the most intriguing players on the New York Knicks roster. The longest-tenured Knick was recently asked about his future with the team given his current contract situation.

Robinson is entering the final year of a four-year, $60 million deal signed before the 2022-23 season. When Robinson is on the court, he’s one of the league’s most dominant interior forces thanks to his ability to protect the rim, and secure offensive rebounds. However, Robinson has spent the majority of his current contract on the shelf with numerous injuries, leading many to question if the Knicks should commit to him long-term once again.

Robinson unsure of long-term future with the Knicks

Now an expiring contract, Robinson was asked about his future with the team earlier this week.

“I'm going to come out here and play hard regardless - whether it's my last, my first, just come out here and play hard,” Robinson said. “I'm also going to let my agent handle that part of it. I'm going to play basketball.”

Robinson appeared in just 17 regular season games (3 starts) last season due to injury, averaging 5.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Robinson has seen his minutes and role go through numerous changes in the last two seasons thanks to his extensive injury history, but with Mike Brown now in the fold, his role could change once again.

Nonetheless, Robinson will be one of the more important pieces for a Knicks team that is aiming to snap a 52-year title drought in 2026.
