Ahead of their NBA Cup quarterfinals matchup against the Toronto Raptors, the New York Knicks announced Tuesday that shooting guard Miles McBride was ruled out.
McBride sprained his ankle in Sunday afternoon's victory over the Orlando Magic and reportedly left the Knicks' practice facility in a walking boot.
The 25-year-old underwent X-rays of his ankle, which were negative. McBride leads the Knicks with a three-point percentage of 44.4, and he shot 57.4 percent from beyond the arc in the previous seven games.
“Healthy or not, Deuce has been remarkable this year," Jalen Brunson told reporters after Sunday's game. "The way he’s been shooting, the way he’s been playing defense, everything he’s doing has impacted winning. He’s been playing great. So we’ll see how things go. But obviously we’ll need him.”
How the Knicks can manage without McBride
Head coach Mike Brown's team is already thin at guard, with Landry Shamet out for several weeks with a shoulder injury.
Tyler Kolek is the Knicks' backup point guard, but players like Jordan Clarkson and Mohamed Diawara could see an increased workload tonight against the Raptors.
Clarkson has been aggressive in attacking the rim and is averaging 19.8 minutes per game off the bench while scoring 9.8 points per contest.
McBride's status for a potential NBA Cup semifinals matchup is in the air.
