The Miami Heat had a largely underwhelming season in 2024-25 as they found themselves marred with controversy seemingly all season due to Jimmy Butler's trade request. While they finished with the eighth seed, they were bounced from the postseason in four games by the Cleveland Cavaliers, culminating with a 55-point loss in Game 4. Miami was outscored by 122 points in the series, setting an NBA record for the most lopsided series in postseason history.

Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies finished eighth in the Western Conference and were also swept in the first round of the postseason as Ja Morant once again struggled to stay healthy. While they have insisted that they do not have plans to move on from the two-time All-Star, there have been reports that Morant could be moved for the right price.

A recent trade proposal suggested that the Heat could look to swap All-Star guards with the Grizzlies.

"Heat receive: Ja Morant Grizzlies receive: Tyler Herro, Nikola Jović and a 2025 first-round pick (via GSW)," Bleacher Report's Zach Buckley wrote on Wednesday. "The Heat have long been on the lookout for a fix to their offensive woes. Plus, they're a logical suitor whenever a star reaches the trade market. There are myriad reasons to think they'd want in on a Morant megadeal, not the least of which is how his competitive drive seems like a snug fit with their famed #culture. While Miami's offensive spacing could get squeezed between Morant and Bam Adebayo, those two could still work magic in the pick-and-roll game and in the open floor. Plus, that's less of a concern if Miami managed to fill its other three starting spots with viable long-range shooters, which could be possible if rookie big man Kel'el Ware crushes his developmental work this offseason."

Buckley added that Herro could be the best player made available in Morant discussions, if the Grizzlies are looking to acquire win-now talent in return. Meanwhile, Jović has continued to improve in each of his three seasons in the league and is just 21 years old.

Miami has been reported to be in the mix for a star this offseason after losing Butler at the trade deadline. While Morant appeared in just 50 games this season and had his lowest scoring output since 2020-21, he has the ability to help the Heat's offense -- which has not finished in the top half of the league in scoring since 2019-20 -- improve significantly.

The two-time All-Star averaged 23.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 7.3 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.2 blocks per game in 2024-25. He shot 45.4% from the field, 30.9% from three-point range and 82.4% from the free-throw line.
