While ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported that Luka Doncic was excited about what the Los Angeles Lakers’ $10 billion sale to Mark Walter, CEO of TWG Global, could mean for the franchise, the public didn’t receive an immediate statement from Doncic on the historic deal.
A few hours after McMenamin’s report, Doncic finally broke his silence and made a massive statement about the surprising offseason move.
“The Lakers are an amazing organization,” Doncic wrote on X/Twitter on Thursday morning. “I’m looking forward to meeting Mark and excited about the future.”
“I am also grateful to Jeanie and the Buss family for welcoming me to LA, and I’m happy that Jeanie will continue to be involved. I look forward to working with both of them to win championships!”
As multiple outlets have stated, Doncic is the clear winner of the sale. The five-time All-Star guard didn’t ask the Dallas Mavericks to the Lakers on Feb. 2.
However, the 26-year-old superstar point guard wants to make the best of his situation in Los Angeles and spend the next leg of his career in a highly competitive environment.

Walter is responsible for the Los Angeles Dodgers’ commendable 12-year playoff streak as the franchise’s owner (the Dodgers have reached the postseason every year from 2012 to 2024 and captured two World Series titles), making him an ideal fit with the Doncic and LeBron James-led Lakers.
The Lakers didn’t make it out of the first round of the playoffs this season, but a beneficial change in ownership should help the organization soon reach elite status in the loaded Western Conference.
Doncic’s feelings are unquestionably justified.
