When it comes to LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers’ future, don’t expect Luka Dončić or Austin Reaves to push him for answers.

LeBron sat in front of the media last week for the annual media day. The first question he was hit with was a retirement update. The four-time NBA champion is entering season No. 23 and despite being 40 years old, his returns have not diminished. The Lakers legend, who is entering his final season after exercising the $52.6 million option for the 2025-26 season, hinted that the end is near:

"I don't know. I'm excited about the opportunity to play the game that I love for another season. And however the journey lays out this year, I'm just super invested. Because, like you said, I don't know when the end is, but I know it's a lot sooner than later."

In the meantime, his teammates are okay if James wants to take his time before deciding on his future. In fact, one of them is pleased to extend the partnership to as many as five years.

Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic want to continue with LeBron James

Before the Lakers' preseason game against the Phoenix Suns, Austin Reaves went on to say that the all-time leading scorer has another "five years" in him. The reporter prompted for more, to which Reaves obliged.

Meanwhile, Lakers star Luka Doncic is known to be fond of LeBron. According to ESPN, he enjoys playing alongside the all-time great, and he sees a championship opportunity with LeBron. Doncic has previously been in this position when he had to see Dirk Nowitzki call time on his legendary career.

As for King James, he is not concerned with what others are saying. He's playing because he loves the game, and there is no milestone he is looking forward to achieving.

LeBron is currently dealing with sciatica on his right side; therefore, he is limited to light shooting during the training camp. The Lakers say he will be reevaluated in three to four weeks, meaning he is expected to miss the start of the 2025-26 season.
