It’s no secret that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James doesn’t have much time remaining in the league.
At age 40, it’s remarkable that the greatest scorer in NBA history can still get the job done on the offensive end.
By opting into his $52.6 million player option, James made it clear that he still wants to compete at the highest level for a bit longer.
However, the four-time NBA champion received a frightening retirement prediction from his son, Bryce James.
"I ain't gonna lie that's OD (overdose-doing too much)," the Arizona freshman said on Instagram Live in response to a comment about him potentially joining his father in the league in 2026.
“Waiting until I (get drafted)...nah that's too much. That's too much. He's going to be 42, bro.”

By reading between the lines, one would conclude that James’ youngest son is implying that his father is unlikely to be an active NBA player beyond the 2025-26 season.
Why should this prediction scare James? Well, if the 21-time All-Star was planning to retire after his 23rd NBA campaign, there’s a good chance he would have announced it by now.
After all, James has been asked about his NBA future several times since the Lakers’ first-round playoff exit, and has yet to confirm that he plans to play only one more season before moving on from basketball.
When it's all said and done, James will get to decide how he wants the rest of his illustrious career.
