The Los Angeles Lakers entered the offseason with a clear desire to land a starting center -- and likely a backup center, as well. While they have failed to fill the need in the opening stages of free agency, it appears that they have turned their attention to the trade market.

Brett Siegel of Clutch Points revealed that the Lakers front office has inquired about five players to fill the void.

"The Lakers have held talks with Phoenix about a Nick Richards trade, league sources told @ClutchPoints," Clutch Points' Brett Siegel tweeted Tuesday. "LA was a team listed by @MikeAScotto as having interest in Richards. Team has also called about potential Yves Missi and Robert Williams III trades with NOP & POR."

"The Orlando Magic are another team the Lakers have contacted regarding Wendell Carter Jr. and Goga Bitadze, sources said," Siegel added. "It is unknown at this time what the extent of these conversations was and whether the Magic are actively listening to offers for Carter, a valuable member of their frontcourt."

While none of the players represent a flashy name, each would be an upgrade over what the Lakers currently have on the roster. Missi, in particular, represents an intriguing option as the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft is just 21 years old and has three years remaining on his rookie deal.

It is rare for players to be dealt after their rookie season, however, the New Orleans Pelicans made changes to their front office this offseason. The incoming brass -- led by Joe Dumars -- moved up in the draft to select Derik Queen and signed Kevon Looney to a two-year, $16 million deal.

That could leave Missi on the outside of the Pelicans' rotation. Los Angeles would have the opportunity to unlock his full potential by pairing him with Luka Dončić and LeBron James. The 2024-25 NBA All-Rookie Team member averaged 9.1 points, 8.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 0.5 steals and 1.3 blocks in 26.8 minutes per game while shooting 54.7% from the field.
