The Los Angeles Lakers will be tasked with revamping their roster after disappointing their fans this past postseason.
Acquiring free agent Jake LaRavia was a good start, but the franchise must make additional moves to position itself for a championship-winning 2025-26 season.
If not, Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz believes the Lakers’ father-son duo could join the San Antonio Spurs in a surprising move, allowing Luka Doncic to take complete control of the franchise.
“A Big 3 of (LeBron) James, Victor Wembanyama and De'Aaron Fox with Dylan Harper and Stephon Castle would be a force in the Western Conference both now and into the future, as San Antonio could send a package of Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan and one of Keldon Johnson or Harrison Barnes to make the money work with the Lakers' choice of picks to attach,” Swartz wrote Sunday.
“The Spurs would still have their $14.1 mid-level exception and $5.1 million bi-annual exception to improve the roster as well.”
“Letting Wembanyama work out with and learn from James for a year or two (or three) is the best possible scenario for the All-Star center's development, and James has never played with a rim protector or lob catcher like the 21-year-old.”

“Staying in the West is really the only drawback for James here, as the opportunity to play with the greatest prospect since, well, himself should help the 40-year-old feel young again.”
For clarity, the Lakers would send LeBron and Bronny James to the Spurs for Devin Vassell, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson in Swartz’s trade idea.
It’s well-documented that James has the utmost respect for the Spurs’ star center, Wembanyama.
During the 2025 Fanatics Fest in New York, James jokingly stated that the former No. 1 overall pick would accelerate his retirement due to his breathtaking shot-blocking chops.
For reference, Wembanyama averaged 3.8 blocks per game in 46 contests with the Spurs last season (his season ended on Feb. 20 due to a blood clot in his right shoulder).
With San Antonio making an effort to complete a playoff push in the foreseeable future (by trading for Fox and drafting Harper), James could feel intrigued enough to consider taking his talents to the Spurs in Year 23.
Don’t count the Spurs out of the James sweepstakes yet.
