Rockets star Kevin Durant discusses 50-40-90 seasons with LeBron James image

Kevin Durant is widely considered to be one of the best scorers to ever set foot on a basketball court. The 15-time All-Star is one of just nine players to have a season shooting at least 50.0% from the field, 40.0% from three-point range and 90.0% from the free-throw line.

He is one of just three players to accomplish the feat more than once. Durant's ten years between 50/40/90 seasons are the longest such streak between accomplishing the feat.

The Houston Rockets' newest star recently appeared on the "Mind the Game" podcast with LeBron James and Steve Nash -- the latter of whom has an NBA record four 50/40/90 seasons. Durant revealed his thoughts on being a member of such an exclusive club.

"I feel like I missed three (more 50/40/90 seasons)," Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant joked. "I think there was another time in Brooklyn where I was like 39% from the three going into the last game and I had to make like four out of six. I was like 1-8 and I was thinking about it, too. I wanted it so bad."

"That's another part of the mental game. You can get in your own way thinking too much about stuff like that. So, yeah, I remember that one time in Brooklyn. I think there was another time in OKC where I think it was the free throws I might have missed. I was like 88, 87 for the year and I tricked off."

Durant noted that his free-throw percentage was down in 2024-25, as well, sharing that it bothered him as he believes being over 90% is important. He acknowledged that shooting in the mid-80's from the free-throw line is not something he was happy with.

Nash added that he has had two seasons where he almost added to his record four appearances in the 50/40/90 club. He revealed that he cost himself additional 50/40/90 seasons due to a missed field goal in 2012-13 and a missed free-throw in 2006-07. Both members of the exclusive club agreed that they think about the years they were close to reaching the mark more than when they actually accomplished the feat.
