The Houston Rockets were able to complete a trade for Kevin Durant this offseason, and instantly became a team to watch out for in the playoffs.
Unfortunately, their starting point guard, Fred VanVleet, suffered a torn ACL about a month before the season started so they may be looking for a replacement.
A couple of names have been tossed around, like Russell Westbrook or Immanuel Quickley, but an even better option proposed by Fansided’s Cal Durrett has the Rockets acquiring a 25-year-old 20-point-per-game scorer.
“(Coby) White could find a similarly frosty market if he's expecting a giant payday. Nevertheless, he'd be perfect for the Rockets in the short term,” Durrett said Wednesday.
“White being a high-volume 3-point shooter could help a spacing-starved Rockets team. They ranked just 21st in 3-point percentage last season, but if they were to add White to the recently acquired Kevin Durant, then that would dramatically improve their overall offensive efficiency.”
Coby White would be acquired from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Reed Sheppard, Josh Okogie, and a 2029 first-round pick.

White has been with the Bulls for six years and has been one of the few bright spots on their roster.
Last season, he quietly averaged 20.4 points per game while shooting 37% from three-point range.
The Bulls have a plethora of guards like Josh Giddey and Ayo Dosunmu, who are only suffering because of White’s minutes, and they could look to free that space up.
Although Sheppard was the third overall pick in the 2024 draft, he may be on a different timeline than the rest of the Rockets.
Shipping him off for an already established point guard could be exactly what the team needs to win a championship.
