Ja’Vier Francis wasn’t the only player to receive disappointing news five hours after signing with the Golden State Warriors

A 6-foot-3 rookie guard also had to accept the fact that the Dubs were parting ways with him before the end of Monday.

“The Golden State Warriors have waived forward Ja’Vier Francis, guard Chance McMillian, and forward Jacksen Moni,” the organization stated in an unexpected news release.

McMillian began his collegiate career at Grand Canyon, improving his scoring each season and shooting 40% from three-point range or better on two occasions.

After the conclusion of the 2022-23 college basketball season, McMillian decided he wanted to experience life at the high major level, compelling him to transfer to Texas Tech in the offseason.

The Vallejo, California native didn’t disappoint with the Red Raiders during his two-year stint in Lubbock, averaging 12.5 points per game on 49.9% field goal shooting and 41% three-point shooting.

McMillan signed with the Warriors’ summer league squad this past July after going undrafted, but was unable to suit up for the California Classic and NBA 2K26 Summer League due to injury (he suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle that required surgery).

Like Francis, McMillan should expect to develop with the Warriors’ G-League affiliate (the Santa Cruz Warriors) this season and eventually earn a standard NBA contract when the time is right.
