With the NBA season slowly getting closer to its start, the Dallas Mavericks are a dark horse in the Western Conference. After finishing as the final play-in team in the West last season, Dallas will look to come back healthier and improved.
The Mavs will have multiple new faces on the team this upcoming season. They went and signed D'Angelo Russell to fill the void at the point guard position that Kyrie Irving left after suffering a torn ACL on March 3, while also selecting Cooper Flagg out of Duke University with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.
While new players come in, others have to go, and the Mavericks moved on from a former first-round pick over the weekend.
Mavericks waive Olivier-Maxence Prosper
In the weekend leading up to a new month in the offseason, the Dallas Mavericks waived 2023 first-round pick Olivier-Maxence Prosper, NBA insider Michael Scotto announced on X.
"The 23-year-old is expected to draw free agency interest," Scotto added.
Prosper, 23, was selected with the No. 24 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft out of Marquette. In two seasons with Dallas, he averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds while averaging 10.0 minutes a game.
Dallas decided to move on from the 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward to make room on the roster for guard Dante Exum. The Australian guard will serve as one of the replacements for Kyrie Irving while he recovers from his injury.
It's worth noting that the Mavericks are also looking to avoid the second tier of the NBA's luxury tax threshold.
