Mavericks make major Cooper Flagg decision after 31-point Summer League game image

The Dallas Mavericks have pulled the plug.

Cooper Flagg’s time on the court at Las Vegas Summer League is over.

According to insider Marc Stein, Flagg won’t play for the Mavs the rest of the summer.

The news comes the morning after No. 1 pick Flagg dropped 31 points in a matchup with No. 2 pick Dylan Harper and the Spurs.

The Duke great has been impressive in all aspects of his game.

He has spent a lot of time running the point for Dallas. He has dunked with ferocity. He has knocked down tough jumpers and made great passes.

And now the Mavs have made the only decision that made sense.

This is a team that has hopes of contending in 2025-26. They have Anthony Davis, and they’ll get Kyrie Irving back from injury midway through the season.

The absolute last thing they could afford was for Flagg to get injured playing in some exhibition games in Vegas in July.

They’ve also clearly seen enough. Summer League can allow players to develop their games in a way that sets them up for the season ahead.

Flagg is ready to go already. He was ready to go a year ago when he scrimmaged against Team USA before even starting his college career.

This guy is different, and he’s graduated from Summer League. A potentially legendary NBA career is just getting going.
