Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd appears to be enamored by Duke prospect Cooper Flagg.
During an appearance on Sports Radio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket, Kidd shared his admiration for the 18-year-old ahead of the NBA Draft.
"When you talk about [how] he's 18 years old and won't turn 19 until December, it's just amazing, his maturity," Kidd said. "You look at both sides of the floor. Defensively, he's not afraid to guard, and on the offensive end, his ability to shoot and play off the dribble is also notable. When you talk about 6-8, 6-9, to be able to do that, it becomes exciting as a coach, but I think it becomes exciting as a teammate."
Coming into the draft, the Mavericks had a 1.8% chance of landing the No.1 overall pick. However, they have now secured the top selection and are poised to land another generational talent.
Flagg is projected to be the No. 1 overall pick and is expected to be a franchise-altering star. If they choose to draft him, he can come and provide an immediate boost to an already talented roster.
"I think to be able to add a piece like that with [Anthony Davis], Klay [Thompson], when you talk about [Kyrie Irving] and then our two young centers, when you look at [Dereck Lively II] and [Daniel Gafford], I think we're really excited to have this opportunity to add a piece like this," Kidd said. "The young man whom we will have the opportunity to draft at No. 1 will be able to play right away and help us."
