The Dallas Mavericks will presumably have Kyrie Irving at some point next season to handle the point guard duties.
However, given Irving's success as an off-ball contributor, it might behoove the franchise to look into another guard to replace some of what Luka Doncic gave to the team.
If the Mavericks end up with at least the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, they'd likely have a chance of selecting Rutgers Scarlet Knights guard Dylan Harper, as Duke Blue Devils forward Cooper Flagg will almost certainly be the first name called on draft night.
FanSided's Lorenzo Almanza believes that Harper checks a lot of boxes for what the Mavs are looking for, including his shot-creating skills.
"Harper can shoot the ball well from all angles of the court," Almanza wrote. "Last season, he excelled inside the arc, as he converted 59 percent of his shots. Overall, he shot 48.4 percent from the field. Some of Harper's shot attempts came at the rim, as he does a good job of pump-faking opponents."
Harper could also help unlock the best version of his teammates, given his playmaking skills that mirror Dallas' former franchise superstar.

"This means he could excel in providing more lob opportunities for Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford," Almanza noted. "As mentioned, he does well in pick-and-roll situations, and having his speed, athleticism, and passing could create a nasty monster down low when it comes to Lively II and Gafford."
Harper could also make life easier for Anthony Davis and other key Mavs contributors by setting them up for easy looks in their optimal spots.
If the Mavs end up with Harper in June, their future will suddenly look a lot brighter.
