The Toronto Blue Jays have been on fire since the end of May, overcoming a slow start to 2025 and surging to the top of the American League East.
They lead the AL East by 4 1/2 games over the New York Yankees and also have the best record in the Junior Circuit. But they have some needs to address at the trade deadline.
The deadline is now less than a week away, and Toronto could use some pitching. Their rotation especially needs some help.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report listed some of the top available rotation arms. Among them was Sandy Alcantara, and Rymer predicted that the Blue Jays would be his best fit.
"For one, throwing to an elite framer like Alejandro Kirk could soothe some of the pain Alcantara has inflicted on himself with free passes this year. And for two, the Blue Jays' excellent infield defense would mesh well with his ground-ball style," Rymer wrote.

Alcantara has struggled this season, going 5-9 with a 6.66 ERA in 20 starts with the Miami Marlins. He has two years of club control left plus a club option for 2027.
However, due to his struggles, the former Cy Young's value has likely taken a hit, and there is a chance he may not be dealt this summer. But perhaps a change of scenery could help him out.
While the Marlins are playing much better baseball as of late, they also are well out of contention, while the Blue Jays seem prepared to make a run towards October.
Adding him to their rotation, even after his struggles, could give the Blue Jays the boost they need to run away with the AL East.
We'll see how things shake out at the deadline.
