St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas ended his 2025 season on Friday in his final start against the Chicago Cubs. They were able to get the better of the former two-time all-Star as he lasted five innings, giving up four runs on four hits in the 12-1 loss.
Much of the season has been a frustrating one for Mikolas. He has not been as sharp as he has been previously, putting together an 8-11 record across 31 starts with a 4.84 ERA across 156.1 innings of work.
His future is shrouded in mystery. He will become a free agent when the season comes to a close, and with how the Cardinals are looking toward the future, he may not be somebody they pursue over the winter.
Miles Mikolas pleading to re-sign with the Cardinals in free agency
While he understands the team is starting to focus on their younger core, he still wants to return next season. He spoke with MLB.com's Jeff Jones about his desire to stay in St. Louis.
"I'm too optimistic to fully commit to the idea that I'm not coming back. There's 29 other teams, but I think it's pretty well known what my favorite colors are — (I'm a) Cardinal red kind of guy. If this is my last one, then I really did cherish my time here and couldn't have been happier to be a part of this organization for the last eight years."
Mikolas made it known that he is more than comfortable with this club. But if he is to play elsewhere next season, he wanted to make it clear that he appreciated his time with the Cardinals.
