The St. Louis Cardinals are charging into an important offseason with some changes in the front office. John Mozeliak will be stepping down as the club's president of baseball operations and will turn his duties over to Chaim Bloom.
Chaim Bloom will have tons of decisions to make when he steps into office. He has the challenge of getting this organization back to its glory days and getting the fans back in the seats at Busch Stadium.
Bloom will also have to decide what to do with Nolan Arenado, whom the club tried to trade this past offseason. However, with his no-trade clause, he blocked a trade with the Houston Astros, but sees his time in St. Louis running out.
Cardinals' star anticipates offseason trade as club looks to rebuild
Nolan Arenado appears to understand the direction the Cardinals are heading. They are looking to build their core of young players, and while he is a great player, he is hindering the development of some of his teammates.
Arenado knows his days are likely numbered. He spoke with Belleville News-Democrat's Jeff Jones via Redbirds Rants.
"I think it seems like that's where this organization is headed," said Arenado. "What's best for me is probably to come back healthy and show that I'm healthy and hitting the ball hard and all those things... I think this organization's heading toward young players, letting them go, and that just comes with the territory, and I see it."
Arenado will focus on getting healthy and showing his power at the plate. It will be interesting to see which teams will inquire about the eight-time All-Star during the offseason.
