The St. Louis Cardinals are really in need of some good news as they struggle to stay alive in the NL Wild Card race.
So here you go.
After being sidelined since the end of July with a shoulder injury, the team may finally be getting back third baseman Nolan Arenado, who is expected to go through a rehab assignment on Tuesday to further analyze the progress of the 10-time Gold Glover since his injury.
Arenado's Return Could Crowd Cardinals
Katie Woo of The Athletic reported of Arenado's progress, and that the red Birds are hopeful that the future Hall of Famer will return for their final homestretch at the end of this month.
Woo also reported that Alec Burleson would be coming off of the injured list in time for the Cards' series with the Seattle Mariners coming up.
And according to Patrick McAvoy of St. Louis Cardinals On SI, the return of the elite defender at the "hot corner" could prove to be an interesting situation in the St. Louis clubhouse.
Arenado's eventual activation, if it happens, will slightly complicate the roster," McAvoy wrote. "Nolan Gorman has gotten consistent time at third base and adding Arenado into the fold will surely reduce his playing time. But, if he's here for the final homestand, it would make sense to give him all of the time possible to show what he can do before a potential trade this winter."
In 96 games, Arenado holds a .235 batting average with 10 home runs and 43 runs batted in.
