Cardinals' Nolan Arenado reveals things 'weren't true' last offseason amid Astros failed trade image

During the 2024 offseason, reports indicated that the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros had a deal in place to send Nolan Arenado to Houston. Arenado declined that trade, keeping him in St. Louis throughout the 2025 campaign.

Heading into this offseason, reports again indicate that Arenado and the Cardinals could be heading toward a divorce. When speaking with Katie Woo of The Athletic, Arenado admitted that it's something he has to keep in mind, given the organization's current situation.

“I think I have to be,” Arenado said. “That’s something I’ll discuss with my agent and my family. I think the discussion I’ll have with my agent for sure is that the list will be different.”

But perhaps the most interesting part of Arenado's comments was when he stated that there were a lot of things said last offseason that weren't true.

It remains uncertain if that means there wasn't a trade to send him to the Astros, considering they're one of the five teams that he said he would’ve waived his no-trade clause for.

“Last season there were a lot of things said, a lot of things that were true and a lot of things that weren’t true,” Arenado said. “But I tried not to be a distraction, so I tried to put it aside. I don’t want that attention, and this year I don’t want that to happen again.”

Nonetheless, this could be Arenado calling out the front office, ownership, or anyone else in the organization.

Regardless of what was said or not, it's likely better for both sides to try to find a resolution to this situation and part ways.
