The St. Louis Cardinals are going to be an interesting team to watch at the trade deadline. Their strategy is unclear at the moment.

While they are right in the thick of the postseason race, they aren't certain to be buyers at the deadline. They have a few intriguing trade candidates that other contenders might show interest in.

One such piece is right-hander Erick Fedde, who they picked up from the Chicago White Sox at last year's trade deadline. They held onto him in the offseason despite their "reset."

Brendan Strieker of FanSided listed the Los Angeles Angels as a potential fit for the veteran starter.

"With 2/5 of their rotation being occupied by Jack Kochanowicz and Kyle Hendricks, a move in an attempt to bolster the rotation would be welcomed, however small that may be. The Angels have one of, if not the, worst farm system(s) in the league, so they will be forced to look for players to acquire on the cheap," Strieker wrote.

Fedde is 3-8 with a 4.56 ERA this season. The right-hander allowed seven runs over five innings in his last start against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

However, teams may show interest in a low-cost, mid-rotation starter such as Fedde. St. Louis likely won't be able to get much in return for him, but it would be more about clearing a rotation spot for top pitching prospect Michael McGreevy.

In all likelihood, Fedde will not be back in St. Louis in 2026, so it makes sense to trade him and open the door for a younger pitcher on the Major League roster.

St. Louis could sell Fedde off to another contender, but also remain in contention themselves if they make this move. We'll see if any teams show interest in Fedde.
