This isn't how things were supposed to go for the San Francisco Giants.
It's the last week of the regular season, and instead of playing for playoff positioning, they've been officially eliminated from contention.
No one pictured it like this in the spring when the Giants shocked the baseball world by trading for Rafael Devers.
But even without Devers, this was a super talented ballclub, and they never quite put it together.
Ace pitcher Logan Webb spoke to reporters Tuesday night to air some of his frustration.
“It’s frustrating," Webb said. "I think we have a better group than what we’ve shown in here.”
The Giants have now missed the postseason each of the past four years.
“No offense to the teams we’ve had before but this is definitely the most talented team I’ve been on," Webb said. "There’s a lot of expectations and it sucks."
The tricky part now will be for the Giants to figure out what needs to be fixed.
In a vacuum, many of their pieces are good enough to stay right where they are and believe that it'll be a better season next spring.
But sometimes, a team needs a shake up to really reach its potential.
How the Giants approach this offseason will have a huge bearing on next season. San Francisco will need to do everything it can to actually live up to its potential.
