Padres recall Alek Jacob, option JP Sears to Triple-A
The San Diego Padres made multiple moves in their pursuit of the top spot in the NL West.

Alek Jacob, 27, opened the 2025 season with steady appearances and strong results. But in May, he allowed 18 hits and 15 earned runs over 8.1 innings, sending his ERA from 1.80 to 6.94. He'll look to get another chance in the big leagues.

JP Sears, 29, was acquired by the Padres at the MLB trade deadline, along with closer Mason Miller. Since coming to San Diego, Sears has bounced between Triple-A and the big leagues multiple times.
In three starts since being traded to the Padres, Sears has a 1-1 record, 5.52 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, and eight strikeouts in 14.2 innings.
