The San Diego Padres have one of the best bullpens in baseball and will be riding it through the postseason. But on the first day of September, the Padres were dealt a brutal blow as All-Star reliever Jason Adam went down with an injury on the mound.
It was a brutal injury, which, after the game, was diagnosed as a season-ending quad tendon rupture. Adam, amid a strong season, will miss the remainder of the 2025 season and begin a long road to recovery from a brutal injury.
Dennis Lin of The Athletic shared Adam's comments postgame on his injury, as he spoke for the first time since his season-ending injury was confirmed. Adam shared updates on his status and how he's taking the brutal news amid a great season.
Jason Adam Reacts to Season-Ending Injury
The injury was a rough one, as he went to plant his left leg and move to his right, but shortly thereafter, as Adam described, "That's when I felt the poop, and it kind of gave out."
After the game, amid such a brutal injury, Adam was candid in his response to the likelihood of a return this season. "The seasons' probably done for me," Adam said.
Before his injury, he had a 1.93 ERA in 65 appearances for the Padres. Now, with a recovery lasting potentially, at a minimum, the next six months, Adam has to look ahead to the Spring of 2026 for his next MLB action.
However, the postseason push for the Padres is far from over, as they need to move on from Adam's injury to try to supplant the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West and make a deep run in October.

For Adam, watching from the dugout, away from the team, is a tough scenario. Adam revealed his thoughts on missing time, from the perspective of not being a part of the team, rather than the recovery itself.
"I think that's the hardest part," Adam said. "The recovery is what it is. You can take that day by day. But just knowing this group in here, the mental toughness they have, the skill - you just know there's everything in this clubhouse to win the World Series, so you want to be part of that."
Adam's recovery won't be an easy one if the MRI scans confirm the quad tendon rupture. But he's not as worried about the recovery, but more frustrated that he won't be able to pitch with the dominant Padres bullpen come October.
Not only is this a brutal blow for the Padres, especially this late in the year, but it's a terrible injury for Adam, who was in the middle of one of his best seasons in professional baseball.
