Luis Arraez reveals free agency plans after Padres’ elimination image

Luis Arraez might have played his final game for the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The Chicago Cubs eliminated the Padres after winning the final wildcard game 3-1. With that, Arraez's contract has run out, and he will be a free agent this winter.

After the game, in which he went hitless in four plate appearances, the infielder talked with the reporters about his future beyond the 2025 season. Arraez made his thoughts crystal clear when asked if he wanted to remain with the team. His reply was:

"100% yes."

Arraez also informed that no talks have started between both parties, and a lot needs to be discussed before that happens, but he would like to continue playing in Petco Park in front of the Friars' fanbase.

“I know it’s my last year here. I’ll be a free agent. But hey, this team is special. They gave me a lot of opportunities. Especially the fans -- the fans supported me a lot. I want to say thanks to them,” Arraez said, visibly emotional after the loss.

“We haven’t had conversations. I think they don’t want to talk about that right now. Especially me — I don’t want to talk about that right now because everybody’s sad after the loss. But I’ll be open to whatever.”

Luis Arraez reiterated, hoping to come back, while talking about offseason plans

After the 2025 season came to an end, Luis Arraez desires to head to Miami, where his wife and three daughters are waiting for up. Arraez is married to Gladys Penalver de Arraez. The couple shares three daughters, namely Emma Luisana (born November 22, 2017), Esther Lusset (November 20, 2019), and Esthela Luisa (November 29, 2023).

In his post-game comments, Arraez also showed gratitude to the almighty and feels bad for the fanbase as the Padres fell short of expectations. While wrapping up his interview, Arraez once again mentioned his desire to return.

It remains to be seen if Arraez remains with the Padres or does the team moves on from his contact-hitting approach. This year, Arraez has only hit eight home runs while batting .292.
