HISTORY releases 'Clemente' trailer for upcoming documentary on Pirates legend image

The HISTORY Channel unveiled its first trailer for its upcoming documentary on Pittsburgh Pirates' legend Roberto Clemente. 

"Clemente" will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 8 p.m.

This is the latest in the line of UNITERRUPTED documentaries with executive producers LeBron James, Richard Linklater and Maverick Carter. "Clemente" is directed by David Altrogge. 

HISTORY has chronicled other sports icons in the last few years, including U.S. Olympian Jesse Owens in "Triumph" and multi-sport icon Jim Thorpe in "Lit by Lightning."

Who was Roberto Clemente? 

Clemente was a star outfielder for the Pirates from 1955-1972. The Carolina, Puerto Rico native was one of the best all-around players from his era. 

He finished with 3,000 hits, a .317 batting average and 240 home runs. He also won 12 Gold Glove awards. 

Clemente led the Pirates to World Series championships in 1960 and 1971. Clemente died in a plane crash on Dec. 31, 1972. 

"Clemente" will explore the exploits of the legendary baseball player.

Here is a first look at the "Clemente' trailer. 

The documentary features archival football and family interviews with Clemente's sons Roberto Clemente Jr., Luis Clemente and Roberto Luis Clemente. Rita Moreno, Bob Costas, Francisco Lindor, Michael Keaton, Tom Morello are among the interviews within the documentary.
