The Philadelphia Phillies earned a 1-0 win over the Miami Marlins on Thursday, thanks to timely hitting and another strong showing from their pitching staff. Alec Bohm provided two hits and the game’s only RBI, while Bryson Stott went 2-for-3 to add to the offensive effort. On the mound, Walker Buehler set the tone with five scoreless innings, holding Miami to just three hits before handing the ball to the bullpen. The relief corps finished the job, allowing only two more hits to preserve the shutout.

For Buehler, it marked another impressive outing since joining Philadelphia. The right-hander, who struggled earlier this season with the Boston Red Sox, has quickly turned things around in his new environment. Across 13 2/3 innings with the Phillies, Buehler has allowed just one run and has earned the win in all three of his appearances. That equates to a 0.66 ERA, a dramatic improvement from the 5.45 ERA he posted in 23 appearances for Boston.

While his strikeout rate remains a career-low 6.6 per nine innings, Buehler has leaned on command and efficiency to keep opponents off the board. If he can sustain that form in October, he could prove to be a valuable under-the-radar addition for a Phillies team aiming for another deep postseason run.

Signed to a minor league deal after being released by Boston, Buehler now has the opportunity to rebuild his value. With two World Series rings from his time with the Dodgers and a 3.04 ERA in 19 career postseason outings, he brings experience and poise. Even if he doesn’t headline Philadelphia’s rotation, his reliability gives the Phillies another weapon when the National League Division Series begins.
