The Philadelphia Phillies have been named National League East champions for the second year in a row. They have put themselves in the driver's seat to avenge their NLDS loss to the New York Mets during last year's postseason.
With a few more wins and a few more losses from the Los Angeles Dodgers or San Diego Padres, the Phillies could find themselves with another first-round bye. That would be ideal, given they could give some players a much-needed rest.
Philadelphia must start thinking about its postseason roster. After some heartbreaking losses in previous seasons, the fans are itching to see their club take home its first World Series trophy since 2008.
Phillies reliever's postseason spot in jeopardy after landing on IL
Jordan Romano's postseason spot is currently in jeopardy as he sits on the IL. He was placed there over two weeks ago for right finger inflammation.
However, his performance this season alone could put his postseason spot in jeopardy. He has not been a reliable arm for Philadelphia, and Matt Gravel of That Ball's Outta Here argues he should be left off the playoff roster.
"If Romano is healthy enough to pitch by the start of the playoffs, the Phillies need to consider his struggles this year in determining whether he should be on their roster. He has pitched too many games this year in which he has surrendered multiple runs. The team would be better off with Trivino, Mayza, or Lazar on their postseason roster in place of a healthy Romano."
Gravel states that Lou Trivino, Tim Mayza, or Max Lazar would be better options. They should get the call in place of Romano, whether he is healthy or not.
